The Crossing

a boy wearing a lei and a hawaiian shirt told me
i like your vibesat the sports bar, when I was three
pitchers of sprite and vodka in, and I was three
sheets to the wind.

he told me he was leaving the country soon,
he told me he would be leaving for six months,
he told me he might not return to chicago.

and i didn’t kiss him.
and i didn’t take him home.

instead i relished in the temporary
adoration for a stranger, and i watched
his hazel eyes humor my glossed over ones.

the crater in my heart began to fill,
with temporary relief of the blemish
you left me with, and although

I am not whole,
I am healing.
